China Eastern Starts to Offer Air Wi-Fi Service

China Eastern (CES) will provide inflight Wi-Fi service in its Boeing 777-300ER for the flights from Shanghai to New York, Los Angeles and Toronto from now on. Passengers will be enabled to connect PCs or pads with Wi-Fi in the cabin to visit websites, use instant messaging service (WeChat, Weibo and Yixin) and shop online.

Passengers can apply for Wi-Fi service beforehand on CES’s website or through CES App. A verification code will be sent to passengers’ email box or mobile phone. Passengers with no verification code can still enjoy free services including news, flight booking, and travel guide of the destination on CES’s inflight website. During the trial run of air Wi-Fi, the verification code is free for application. After that, CES will continue to provide free value-added services in designated areas, and CES will charge accordingly for internet service.

CES’s international flights including those from Shanghai to Vancouver and San Francisco and some domestic flights including those from Shanghai to Beijing, Guangzhou, Kunming, Chengdu and Chongqing will have this service soon.
